For the past 150 years presidential elections have taken the route of two major parties. Candidates have been selected by these two parties and the media and then put through a primary process until the hand picked candidates are nominated at their individual conventions. Lost in this process is the ability of the American people to voice their opinions and choices. The existing political system spoon feeds their choices and fundamentally blocks any other choice the people desire.
It is clear a change is needed. Not only a change in political theory but also in the nomination process. Technology can and must be used to incorporate the will of the people into our political races. We now have the means to hold campaigns and conventions online. By doing so we will merge the wants of the people with the needs of our nation.
Americans Elect is now forging a new path in the electoral process. Each voter or delegate will have a say in the candidates chosen, the issues to be debated and the planks of the platform to be put forth in the next presidential election. An internet convention will be held in June 2012 to select the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates that will truly represent the people. But none of this is possible without your participation. You will be the political machine to drive this effort. You wil have the ultimate say in who will represent us. And you will choose the direction this nation will take to survive in the future.
